To embark on your exciting hand embroidery journey, you will be introduced to the 'classic' stitches and some of their variations to create your own embroidery 'sampler'. These classic stitches form the foundation of all types of hand embroidery and are integral to accomplishing more specific techniques and styles as you progress. You will also learn about how to prepare your base fabrics, using appropriate needles, threads and the different ways to mark out your designs onto your fabrics. The classic stitches you will learn are: 1. Running stitch 2. Back stitch 3. Stem stitch 4. Satin stitch 5. Couching 6. Blanket stitch 7. Chain stitch 8. Lazy Daisy stitch 9. Cross stitch 10. Herringbone stitch 11. Feather stitch 12. The French knot In the session, as well as learning the classic stitch method, you will have the opportunity to explore a range of interesting and decorative variations and combinations of the stitches, as well as guidance on how to apply them and their variations in combinations to clothes, soft furnishings and art pieces. All materials are provided but if possible, please bring your own scissors. If you would like to use some of your own fabrics and threads, please bring them along too. Tea and coffee are included.
